Organization;
Former Miss NY Earth & Bachelor Finalist Marshanna
Ritchie to Host
Brooklyn, NY—January 13, 2010 – The Miss Brooklyn Scholarship Organization (www.missbrooklyn.org) announced today that Amaris Acosta, former Miss New York United States and Miss Caribbean USA, is the pageant’s new
Executive Director. She will helm the third annual Miss Brooklyn Pageant which takes place on Sunday, March 28th at the Sam
Levenson Theatre at Brooklyn College. Produced by Karaliene Productions, Miss Brooklyn will be hosted by former Miss New York
Earth and ABC’s “The Bachelor” finalist, Marshanna Ritchie.
"After volunteering with the Miss Brooklyn Organization
for the last two years, I am honored to take on a larger role in producing the Miss Brooklyn Scholarship
Competition,” said Acosta.” With the amazing job (former executive director) Kimberly
Thomas has done I have some big shoes to fill, but my goal is to produce a great event and, hopefully, the next Miss New
York."
The Miss Brooklyn Scholarship
Competition is an official preliminary to Miss America,
one of the nation’s leading achievement programs and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for
young women. Returning after a 16-year hiatus, Miss Brooklyn 2008
Leigh Taylor Smith earned the title of Miss New
York and third runner at Miss America,
earning over $22,000 in scholarships. The current Miss Brooklyn, Keelie
Sheridan, is continuing the tradition of excellence placing 4th Runner Up at Miss New
York.
Entrants will be vying for scholarships and an opportunity to compete in the upcoming Miss New York America
pageant. Interested participants can download entry forms and find more information on the Miss Brooklyn website at www.missbrooklyn.org.
ABOUT MISS BROOKLYN
The Miss America Scholarship Program has returned to Brooklyn! Scholarships are awarded to young women pursuing
a higher education and who live, attend college or work in the five boroughs of New York City. Through the Miss Brooklyn Scholarship
Program, young women are provided with the opportunity to achieve their educational aspirations through scholarship awards—a
tradition first established by the Miss America scholarship fund. Today, educational advancement, achievement, and public
services continue to be the primary objectives for the Miss America Organization, Miss New York Organization, and the Miss
Brooklyn Scholarship Program in the face of changing roles for women in American society. For more information about
